Privacy Policy

BurnAfterView is designed to minimize what the server learns about your note.

What we store

Encrypted note content (ciphertext) and encryption metadata (IV, optional salt, KDF type).
A random token used to locate the encrypted note.
Timestamps for creation, expiration, and when a note is opened/destroyed.
The IP address that opened the note (for abuse monitoring and audit).

What we do not store

Plaintext notes.
Encryption keys from “no password” links (the #k= fragment is not sent to the server).
Manual passwords.

How long we keep data

Notes expire based on your selected retention period.
After a note is opened, it is destroyed and cannot be opened again.
Expired and destroyed notes are cleaned up during normal app usage.

Cookies

The site uses a session cookie to support security features such as CSRF protection.

Sharing

We do not sell personal data. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the service from abuse.

Security

Use HTTPS and treat generated links as sensitive. If you use a manual password, share it via a separate channel.
